I’ll have much more when there’s time, but a couple of highlights from Cal’s time at the podium:
–Jeff Tedford addressed the quarterback situation and said he likely will name the starter during the first week of the season. At other times, Tedford has said he may keep evaluating the situation into the first game. But [...]
I meant to post this earlier. It is a Cal season-preview by Blue Ribbon Yearbook and ESPN.com. It originally appeared on ESPN’s website about 10 days ago.
There’s really no breaking news here or a new take on things, but just another observation by a national outlet. A couple of things I would point out: I [...]
We had a question lately about our receivers, since we return all of 10 catches for 153 yards (thanks to LayReylle Cunningham, who provides all of those numbers. Yes, he is the only wide receiver on the roster with a catch in a game.). We figured that other people might be curious about our actual players in the midst of a month’s coverage on DumpyMuffs …

I was told there were about 65 entrants this year, and enthusiasm abounded, not just from the campers, but from the players, former players and coaches on hand.
I sat in on part of [...]
2:34 p.m. Cal goes quietly in the second inning. Jackson makes some solid contact but flies out to center, Blake Smith strikes out on a breaking ball in the dirt and Dylan Tonneson grounds out harmlessly to third base.
Bennigson’s out to start the third inning. If you’re a glass-half-full kind of person, you can focus [...]
Baseball isn’t like basketball. Or even Baseketball for that matter. If baseball were like basketball, all Cal would have to do is beat U of SD this Friday to move on to the next round. And if baseball were like Baseketball, all the Bears would have to do is beat USD and hope that Denver beats Atlanta in the American Southwestern Division …

On Tuesday night I went to Gordon Biersch in San Francisco to attend the Coaches Tour event. There was a much smaller turnout than Monday’s event in Pleasant Hill. Only about 150 people were probably in attendance despite the 250 or so who had registered.
Here are my notes from the night:
Rich Feller - Cal Women’s …

It is true that sometimes we like to mock and joke on our favorite team when they’re down in the dirt just a little. Yet at the same time, I also ask the question: is that so bad? Lately, there [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “KC Cal’s Weekly Super Fantastic Happy Explosion Awesome …

Tags: Memorial Stadium, shane, StanfordI did most of my Spring Practice commentary in the podcasts, but I thought it would be worthwhile to put down some notes in word form as well:
Players with best practices (according to me, anyway):
Nyan Boateng
Michael Calvin
Covaughn DeBoskie
Brian Anger
Tad Smith
Peter Geurts
Ernest Owusu
Syd’Quan Thompson
Rulon Davis (as a leader)
Units that are looking to be strong going into [...]

Riley looked more confident during the two-minute drill near the beginning of practice, dealing with the defense’s pass rush to complete short passes to Nyan Boateng and Tad [...]
The Bears began the final week of the spring with a pretty lively practice at a frigid Memorial Stadium on Monday night. As has been the case for most of the spring, the defense has outplayed the offense.
As the Bears do often at practice, they practice the two-minute drill near the beginning. The first two [...]
The last Spring Practice is this Saturday. I’ll be heading down watch and do a couple interviews. The point of this post is to ask for nominations for who to interview. It should be one of the players who has not yet been interviewed by Rivals/BearTerritory.net. Those players are:
Shane Vereen
Brock Mansion
Jeremy [...]
I attended Spring Practice on Wednesday April 16th. I just now got around to editing together my On The Road Home Podcast, but it was recorded on the car ride home. I’ve also got audio from post-practice interviews with Tedford and Shane Vereen is who was out of the redshirt for the first [...]

The Bears went a little shorter than usual Friday because they have a morning practice on Saturday. Most of their practice focused on fundamentals and going through plays, with only a brief session of 11-on-11 near the end of the session.
Some formerly injured players – linebackers Zack Follett [...]
