BREAKING: Cal Starting Quarterback Announced (Bears Necessity)

Posted June 25, 2008 at 9:28 am

Given all the buzz behind Nate Longshore and Kevin Riley, Jeff Tedford has made a surprise decision about who his quarterback will be at a special 9 am press conference early this morning.
“After much deliberation……I’ve decided to let Leon Powe give it a shot in the backfield.”

“Leon has proven this past season that he’s capable [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “BREAKING: Cal Starting Quarterback Announced”, url: “http://bearsnecessity.com/cal-football/breaking-cal-starting-quarterback-announced/” });

YouTube Thursday Filler Week 2 Leon Powe Edition (California Golden Blogs)

Posted June 12, 2008 at 7:54 am

I think that with two huge decisions (Judge and Anderson) coming down next week, we should have a lot of non-filler material coming in.  But hey for now, let’s look at Big 4-4, Leon Powe!  Now, he is Big 0.  Helping evil win.  Oh well, you can’t pick which team drafted him (which technically was the Nugs, IIRC).  And he’s doing a …

POWE-ND (Bears Necessity)

Posted June 10, 2008 at 3:10 pm

So I just got back from Vegas, and despite all the money I’ve lost right now, I feel quite vindicated. While some of you doubters might have thought that the NBA Finals was the Powe-show, I don’t think any of you are doubting now.

Oh yeah. As we get ready for Game 3, it’s time to [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “POWE-ND”, url: “http://bearsnecessity.com/random/powe-nd/” });

Leon Powe is Roaring (Bears Necessity)

Posted June 6, 2008 at 7:59 pm

The NBA, where 4 points 4 rebounds in nine minutes happens.

They might be talking about Paul Pierce’s fake knee injury and KG’s thunder dunking and Kobe making nine of the most amazing shots ever (and missing seventeen of the most amazing shots ever). But on the Best Coast, this day belongs to Leon Powe, the [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Leon Powe is Roaring”, url: “http://bearsnecessity.com/random/leon-powe-is-roaring/” });

3rd Down Offense in the Pac-10 (Bears Necessity)

Posted April 15, 2008 at 4:36 am

Numbers are always fun to look at, and this week I’m going to look at the all-too-crucial third down conversion. While I can’t generate anything as awesome as MGoBlog’s graphs, I can do some basic breakdown of numbers.
The Division I rushing yards per carry ranking is listed in parentheses.

Rushing
3rd and 1-3
3rd and [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “3rd Down Offense in the Pac-10″, url: “http://bearsnecessity.com/cal-football/3rd-down-offense-in-the-pac-10/” …

SJ Mercury News: Running backs control Cal’s scrimmage ()

Posted April 15, 2008 at 12:22 am

Cal sophomore quarterback Kevin Riley got the biggest cheer of the day, but running backs Tracy Slocum and Covaughn DeBoskie carried most of the offensive load Saturday during a controlled scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

Several thousand fans showed up on a sunny and unseasonably warm day to watch Cal’s only spring football practice open to the public.

The Dark Side (Blue and Gold Sports)

Posted April 4, 2008 at 9:45 am

If the rumors prove to be true and Mike Montgomery is indeed the next head coach at Cal, I will experience a profound sense of both relief and disquiet. Relief that the Bears are bringing on a winner, a man who will go from the role of arch enemy to p…

More Notes From Cal’s First Spring Practice (Bear Bytes)

Posted March 31, 2008 at 11:59 pm

Jahvid Best made his sort-of-return to the Cal football team in its first day of spring ball Monday.
That’s pretty good news for a program that just lost what was supposed to be their No. 1 tailback heading into the spring. Best won’t be involved in anything where he can get hit, but he will be [...]

Because I only caught the tail end of Cal basketball under Braun (the NBA consumes too much of my life to follow college in earnest), I can really add nothing to personal memories of Ben Braun.
