Better Know An Olympian II: First Blood (California Golden Blogs: Front Page Posts)

Posted July 23, 2008 at 1:06 pm

Ok, so we learned a lot about our first 10 Olympians representing Cal, but there are many, many, many, many, many, many more.  I wonder if there is a listing of Olympians by American college.  I’d have to think that 40 Olympians is a strong contingent.  Let’s get to it!

Catching up (BearTalk)

Posted July 22, 2008 at 2:11 pm

I’ve been meaning to mention that the new Pac-10 blog over at ESPN.com is pretty good. Ted Miller, formerly of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, runs the blog and he’s spent the past week or so ranking the different positions in the conference. Today, he ranked defensive tackles and had Cal’s Derrick Hill at No. 7. I [...]

A preview (BearTalk)

Posted July 21, 2008 at 2:23 pm

I meant to post this earlier. It is a Cal season-preview by Blue Ribbon Yearbook and ESPN.com. It originally appeared on ESPN’s website about 10 days ago.
There’s really no breaking news here or a new take on things, but just another observation by a national outlet. A couple of things I would point out: I [...]

Thoughts Regarding a College Football Playoff (California Golden Blogs: Front Page Posts)

Posted July 18, 2008 at 8:26 am

Since the inception of the AP poll in 1934 (and probably long before), college football fans have wondered which powerhouse team was the best in the country.  The AP poll was created to generate interest in and sell newspapers, goals it has achieved admirably.  The ink spilled today (most of it now virtual) over the annual debate about the national rankings is impressive, to say …

Cignetti Interview (California Golden Blogs: Front Page Posts)

Cignetti Interview
Interesting Excerpt:

You’ve got a pretty healthy quarterback competition going on. What did you tell those two going in about how the competition would be handled and what you needed to see from the guy who was going to win the job?

FC: First off, it was a great spring for me and the quarterbacks. Nate [Longshore] only practiced the first week [until he injured …

Rey Maualuga Wins the INTERNETZ (And other Pac-10 Links) (Bears Necessity)

Posted July 15, 2008 at 12:20 pm

Sunday Morning QB, Cal Preview: “The bad news from that perspective is that both the most reliable and most explosive players have all gone on to the pros, and the immediate reserves are not as highly regarded — though Jordan wasn’t a high profile recruit, Hawkins was a four-star prospect out of junior college and [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Rey Maualuga Wins the INTERNETZ (And other Pac-10 …

Do We Hate Maryland - Or What? (California Golden Blogs)

Posted July 1, 2008 at 11:18 am

Yellow Fever: I don’t know much about Maryland.  I probably should know more than I do, given that one of our fraternity’s events was held there a few years ago and one of our brothers is there now, but I don’t.  I know it’s at College Park, which does sound better than College Station.  But if you pressed me to name more …

Tales from the Hood - NBA Draft Edition (California Golden Blogs)

Posted June 27, 2008 at 9:59 am

Your faithful narrator here went a Nets draft party last night over in Brooklyn (hence the Hood section of the title), which much enthusiasm and excitement.  Yi!  On the Nets!  Frankly, I’m thrilled.  As a merchandise and jersey whore, I’m going to be buying his jersey as soon as it’s available.  (And probably pick up a RJ jersey once they go on …

As mentioned in an earlier post, four of Cal’s games could be picked up by ABC, Fox Sports Net or Versus. Those are during weeks in which the networks are allowed to select a game 12 or six days before it is played. Here is a look at what Cal is up against on those [...]

We all know Alex Mack is a beast and quite possibly the best collegiate center in the country. It’s good to see though, that more and more people are recognizing that and the reasons why as well.
Bruce Feldman from ESPN has Mack as one of colle…

Colder commodity? (BearTalk)

Posted June 9, 2008 at 10:47 pm

Cal apparently isn’t quite the attraction it was last season.
A year after having all of their games televised for the first time ever, Cal is only guaranteed to have four games on TV this season after the Pac-10 released its 2008 schedule Monday.
Three of the games we already knew about — ABC had already picked [...]
