Posted April 15, 2008 at 12:22 amCal sophomore quarterback Kevin Riley got the biggest cheer of the day, but running backs Tracy Slocum and Covaughn DeBoskie carried most of the offensive load Saturday during a controlled scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.
Several thousand fans showed up on a sunny and unseasonably warm day to watch Cal’s only spring football practice open to the public.

Posted April 14, 2008 at 7:35 pmThat isn’t much insight into the quarterback competition, and that’s because there isn’t any. As Tedford hinted at before spring drills, the job probably isn’t going to be won in the spring, and, now, it’s even less likely.
Incumbent Nate Longshore looked sharp in the first week, but he has a pulled right pectoral muscle that might keep him sidelined for the rest of the spring. …

Posted April 11, 2008 at 10:29 pmThe Bears held a shorter-than-usual practice Friday in preparation for Saturday’s psuedo-scrimmage. Cal’s practices are broken up into 5-minute periods and typically go somewhere between 20-25 periods. Friday’s practice was 18 periods and was mostly a fundamental-oriented practice with limited work with 11-on-11s.
