What’s It Like Following A College Team? (Bears Necessity)

Posted July 21, 2008 at 1:47 am

There is always a deterministic sense of following hometown teams. I would guess that the majority of Cal fans are also Bay Area fans (or SoCal counterparts), and their emotions fall and rise with the As and the Giants, the 49ers and the Raiders, Warriors and Sharks. You associate with these teams earlier, it’ll always [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “What’s It Like Following A College Team?”, url: …

Tedford Tournament of Champions: Cal 2004 vs. Cal 2007 (Bears Necessity)

Posted July 9, 2008 at 7:26 pm

In case you’re unsure what this is all about, we’re seeing what team WhatIfSports.com determines is the best Tedford-led team of the six teams he’s coached. I simulate the games, and determine the winner of the series after around forty-fifty simulations. Usually it’s conclusive enough to determine who the winner is after at least 20. Tedford Tournament of Champions: Cal 2003 vs. Cal 2007 (Bears Necessity)

Posted June 27, 2008 at 5:00 am

Time doesn’t allow us to do everything we want. But the Internet allows us to manipulate space and time and come with all sorts of fanciful solutions for that.
Whatifsports.com is one of the best and worst sites in the world. On one hand it’s a virtual goldmine for settling questions like “Would the 18-1 Patriots [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Tedford Tournament of Champions: Cal 2003 vs. Cal …

Which Tedford Team Was Your Favorite? (Bears Necessity)

Posted June 13, 2008 at 7:52 pm

A simple question for every Blue and Gold fan out there. Which year produced your favorite Tedford team?
The 2002 team was the virgin experience. Kyle Boller, the beginning of Geoff MacArthur’s productive career, good offensive production.
The 2003 team struggled with what one might call a sophomore slump. Took Rodgers about half the season to find [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Which Tedford Team Was Your Favorite?”, url: “http://bearsnecessity.com/cal-football/which-tedford-team-was-your-favorite/” …

The Bears Are Roaring: Week of 5/21 (Bears Necessity)

Posted May 21, 2008 at 3:06 pm

Big movement brewing to Gold Out Memorial Stadium (with the students in blue to have a Gold C form the stadium). I was thinking about travelling next fall, but if the fans keep on coming up with great suggestions like this, I might just buy season tickets. I’ll have to ponder it.

KC Cal’s Weekly Super Fantastic Happy Explosion Awesome Article: On Bloggins and Hearing From Nasty Nate (Bears Necessity)

Posted May 10, 2008 at 9:32 am

Yesterday, Avinash wrote a trite and insightful piece on his take about the Bissinger-Deadspin controversy. It is true that sometimes we like to mock and joke on our favorite team when they’re down in the dirt just a little. Yet at the same time, I also ask the question: is that so bad? Lately, there [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “KC Cal’s Weekly Super Fantastic Happy Explosion Awesome …

Looking back on ‘05 (Excuse Me For My Voice)

Posted April 30, 2008 at 10:11 am

I’m going to be doing a review of every game in 2005 (see here for why). Before we get to the specific games, a trip down memory lane:
2004 had been the Bears best season in a half century. The Bears only regular season loss was in a nailbiter to USC on the road [...]

DeSean Jackson drafted by the Eagles at #49 (The Cal Football Fan)

Posted April 26, 2008 at 5:19 pm

DeSean Jackson has been drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 18th pick of the second round, pick number 49 overall and the 7th wide receiver to be drafted. In a rather strange draft, no wide receivers were selected in the first round, which seemed to be dominated by defensive players and linemen.
In Alumni [...]
